This special edition of the large format, full-colour, lavishly illustrated tribute to Lady Day comes in a foil-stamped slipcase and includes an exclusive art print of a classic photograph of Billie with her dog Mister, taken by William P. Gottlieb at the Downbeat Club in New York, 1947.
Lady Day: Body & Soul is created in cooperation with the estate of Billie Holiday. The book is edited and with an introduction by Nichelle Gainer. Whoopi Goldberg has written the foreword.
The text includes new and original contributions from, among others, Corinne Bailey Rae, Nile Rodgers, Rebecca Ferguson, Yvette Noel-Schure, Beverly Bond, Bozoma Saint John, Laretta Houston, Abdul ‘Duke’ Fakir, Madeleine Peyroux, Mary Coughlan, Beth Gibbons, contributing editor Chrishaunda Lee-Perez and Billie’s goddaughter Lorraine Feather.
The text is illustrated by classic, iconic and rarely-seen photographs of Billie from throughout her life, including those by William P. Gottlieb, Carl Van Vechten, Jean-Pierre Leloir, Charles Peterson, Bob Willoughby and Moneeta Sleet Jr.
